14 15 \ ALTITUDE culture The new music season kicks off on Saturday, July 26, on the Ballesteros course at the Cranssur-Sierre Golf Club, where CransMontana Classics will set up an open-air stage for the occasion. As the sun sets, the audience will be treated to a performance by Argentine piano duo and siblings Sergio Tiempo and Karin Lechner, alongside soprano Fleur Strijbos and baritone Erol Ramadanović. The evening's program includes works by Darius Milhaud, Astor Piazzolla, and operatic arias by Mozart, Lehár, Puccini, and Bizet. From July 28 to August 3, Crans-Montana will host chamber music master classes for the first time, featuring Resident Artists and Masters from the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel of Belgium, a globally renowned institution known for its avantgarde teaching methods. The week will include three concerts and two free public master classes. Renowned luthiers Jan Strick and his son Matthijs will also present fascinating demonstrations throughout the week. Jan Strick, head of Maison Bernard, the oldest lutherie in Europe (founded in 1868), has earned the trust of major foundations, collectors, and top soloists worldwide. This is a rare opportunity to learn about the intricate and increasingly rare craft of string instrument making, restoration, and repair. On August 9, it's all about American composers. The Sinfonia Valais-Wallis Orchestra, comprising 58 musicians, will join forces with pianist Beatrice Berrut and clarinetist Damien Bachmann for a major concert featuring works by legends such as Gershwin, Bernstein, Artie Shaw, and Arturo Márquez.
